TMA Concerned About Abortion Sonogram Bill

Proposed legislation requiring a sonogram before an abortion "not only sets a dangerous precedent of legislation prescribing the details of the practice of medicine, but it also clearly mandates that physicians practice in a manner inconsistent with medical ethics," TMA warns in a letter to the chair of the Senate State Affairs Committee.

I agree with the minimum responsibility of giving information about the appearance of the fetus prior to an abortion. Physcians have an ethical responsibility to properly inform patients of the reality of a fetus' condition prior to a potentially uninformed decision to end the life of the unborn child in its fetal stage of development.
